Gymkhana in a tricked out Fiesta — fantastic

For those of you who don’t know what gymkhana is, let me explain that first of all. Gymkhana is, originally, an obstacle course of sorts for equestrian riders. Kind of like a grand slolam, the gymkhana was a tricky course riders had to traverse in the fastest time and without falling off or damaging the course. In our day and age we’ve taken gymkhana to an entirely new level and added four wheels instead of four hooves.

Absolutely brilliant.

Why has this obsurd term and crazy automotive sport suddenly risen to the top of Google searches and cropped up on Facebook and Twitter? Well, for starters, rally legend and supreme driver Ken Block and DC Shoes just released a sick video of Block taking on a gymkhana course at the Autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry racetrack in France. It’s almost difficult to put into words how amazing this video is. So, I’ll let you, oh faithful reader, try and formulate your own commentary after watching it:

Once you’ve picked you jaw up off the floor consider the skill and precision it took for Block to pull off that course. That in itself is so impressive, again, I’m left without words. To see him throw that little Fiesta around like it was a part of him with such spot-on turns and maneuveours is just so incredibly inspiring.

Why inspiring you say, oh faithful reader?

Well, again I want to go back to this whole driving manual thing and being a better parker and driver in general (using your turn signal and all that jazz). If Ken Block can take his tricked out Ford Fiesta around this sick, savage track at high speeds and manage not to kill himself or anyone else around him, then I’m pretty sure we (as a general populace) can learn how to be safe, considerate and proper drivers.

But enough soap-box chatter. I think I’m just going to play this video over and over and over again. I am so in awe (and possibly a bit in love) with Ken Block and his beastly little Ford Fiesta (like I didn’t love that car enough already).

Oh, and check out the cool (pun totally intended) little music video Cool Kids did with Block and the Fiesta:

And if anyone knows where I can get one of those No. 43 skull decal stickers, let me know!!

Drive on,
– M.

And just because I clearly can’t get enough:
